Description

A recipe for classic Swedish meatballs served with a rich and creamy sauce, perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Roll mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides. Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside.
  4. Add flour to the skillet and whisk for 1 minute.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  6. Stir in heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard.
  7. Return meatballs to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through.
  8. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the meatball mixture.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a little more beef broth or cream.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or noodles.
