Description
Easy and delicious crispy apple pie turnovers. Perfect for a quick dessert or snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 apple, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the diced apple, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the apple mixture and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the apples are slightly softened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheet and cut it into four equal squares.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the apple filling onto one half of each pastry square, leaving a small border.
- Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to create a triangle. Press the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the turnovers with the beaten egg wash. Sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the turnovers are golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- You can add a pinch of lemon juice to the apple filling to prevent browning.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Store any leftover turnovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
