  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup lasagna noodles, broken
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown Italian sausage and ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off excess grease.
  2. Transfer the browned meat to your slow cooker.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add them to the slow cooker.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth.
  5. Stir in the dried basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  7. About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the broken lasagna noodles. Cook until noodles are tender.
  8. Stir in the ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese until well combined and heated through.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
